Admist the onslaught of anti-LGBTQ+ bills in 2022 and 2023, trans journalists like myself, rang the alarm about a new legal strategy conservatives were using to “prove” gender-affirming care was failing. A small but rotating cast of detransitioners were being flown around the country to testify at legislative hearings— always with the same story. In this episode for VICE on Showtime, I collaborated with two producers to investigate what this strategy entails, and speak with the detransitioners at the center.
